The ‘Chocolate Cherry’ sunflowers I am growing on the roof are just starting to produce flower heads and we are waiting with bated breath hoping they get a chance to open before those rascally raccoons figure them for something tasty or worth shredding to bits. I’ll be sure to take more photos if they make it that far.

Woo, great shot! We’ve had several chocolate cherry sunflower heads open so far, with more coming every few days it seems. I need to figure out how to collect the seeds so I can grow more than one plant next year!
That is beautiful – dark and spidery, poised to unfold any day…
Plus, I was THRILLED to see that you said “bated” and not “baited” like almost everybody else seems to – who wants worm breath? ;-)))
