My friend Barry brought these weekly gardening newspapers back from a recent trip to the UK (Wales and London). And look, each issue has a free packet of seeds affixed to the cover. Okay, so I would not sow any of the seeds that came with these three issues in my own garden, but still — FREE SEEDS!
Here’s a peek inside if you’re curious about content.
Am I suffering from a naive case of greener grass delusion or do they have a greater respect for gardening abroad?
I really must get over there someday.
No, you are not suffering from “a naive case of greener grass delusion or do they have a greater respect for gardening abroad.” They do some pretty awesome gardening stuff abroad and I would kill for a newspaper like that here. I don’t even see any ads in the preview you’ve given us. If this was made in North America there would be all kinds of ads made to blend in with the content. And yes, free seeds. OMG, Want!
P.S. I visited the link and I see that the current issue features “the real gardens of Downton Abbey” Damn! I want that issue.
Fun! Free anything is great, but seeds? Yes please.
I was in England for 3 weeks in 2006 and I have never seen so many gardening publications. We stopped at a gardening centre out of curiousity and I’m green with envy. There were arbors, pots, hooks, planting boxes all kinds of things we don’t have here or cost us a small fortune.
Every house or rowhouse had some sort of garden no matter how small. So, no you are not imagining it…not only do they have more respect for gardening; they have more cool stuff!
Those magazine’s are great. UK also does not allow any GM crops to be grown commercially. I wish Canada would take a better stance at the issue.
Yes, jealousy here too. Alas, we have your blog to read!
“Am I suffering from a naive case of greener grass delusion or do they have a greater respect for gardening abroad?”
They have, definitely. The UK simply and truly is a gardener’s paradise. Gardening has a high significance there. Much higher than in Germany, though we’ve been catching up recently.
I’ll have to go there (again) some time soon, too.
