A Timelapse of My Garden: 2015

Here it is, the seasons of my garden for the calendar year 2015. If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, I regularly post overhead shots of the garden taken from an upstairs window. Well, my spouse Davin Risk records the garden from a different vantage point via the kitchen window nearly every day and posts them to his own Instagram account. He has compiled all of his photos for the year into a time-lapse video.

It’s amazing to watch the transformation as the garden shifts through the seasons from a sparse winterscape into summer’s dense green jungle and back again.

For the past 5 years I have begun each new year with a post looking back on my year in gardening. I still aim to do that this week, but have to admit that because it was such a bad year I am having some trouble with it. Looking at Davin’s time-lapse, the months of illness and the toll they took on my garden (and me) are barely perceptible, and for now I prefer this viewpoint.

Happy New Year!

  1. This is fantastic! It’s so fun to watch over and over. I focus on different sections each time to watch their individual progress. What a cool idea!

  2. In 2014 I was diagnosed with breast cancer, in 2015 I was hit with a debilitating flare of rheumatoid arthritis. My garden is a mess and I still struggle to get out there, but slowly I’m winning over the weeds. You will too.

  3. Fabulous! It is mesmerizing to view over and over.
One time through, I watched only the sky.
When the foliage was at its highest, I actually felt a little heat wave!
    Wonderful concept.

I started a similar project last March, taking a photo once each week looking out the bedroom window (2nd floor) toward a floriferous corner of the yard. I will continue it through this coming March just to make it a complete year, but it does not hold a candle to your compilation. Masterful!

  4. Ha, I love this. I was keeping my eye on the African Daisy in the bottom right, green for a long time and then finally bloomed and then took a dive from the cold. I used a PlantCam to do something similar in my backyard, but really didn’t like the quality to keep going. That was a few years ago, so I bet the technology has gotten better.

  5. I loved watching it. One minute it was beautiful but the next minute the snow came. But it’s beautiful to see it over and over again. Each time it comes up I look at different corners and it will allow me to see it all. Loved it thanks for sharing
