….‘Beaver Lodge Slicer’. Although I can’t be absolutely certain since I discovered some ripe ‘Green Grape’ tomatoes hidden beneath their foliage later that evening. We ate those straight-away before I could be bothered to get out a camera. The ‘Beaver Lodge Slicers’ were delicious on a fried egg sandwich with basil. I don’t have anything special to say about the flavour. They were your “average” incredibly delicious, homegrown red tomato.
I’m waiting for the ‘Black Brandywine’ to ripen. Those are going to be killer, I just know it.
Update: The ‘Black Brandywine’ were very prolific and did well in an extra large container, but the flavour was not very exciting.
We had Pink Girl, Celebrity, Black Krim and Cherokee Purple from our garden this week. Plus handfuls upon handfuls of Sungolds. Delicious!

We picked our first two cherry tomatoes yesterday as well. It’s a good feeling! Although yours do look better than mine!
First up was the Sun Gold cherries, but the first big tomato for us was the Mortgage Lifter. Good basic red tomato. I’m really waiting for the Aunt Ruby’s German Green…any time now….
Yummmm – they look delicious. I had to leave my tomato plants behind this year when I moved (they didn’t like being transplanted). However, the farmers market a few blocks away has been providing me with some delicious varieties to sample/
I’m in MOntreal, and my brandywines having been hanging there in all their green gorgeousness (for 4 weeks)but without a hint of pink anywhere in sight. Please tell me that they’ll be ready soon! When will this crazy Canadian rain fest end?!!
I have Red Lightnings coming out since early last week. Terrific looking tomato (like a shiny striped marble!) and tasted OK. Perhaps I overwatered. Also a fist-sized yellow heirloom variety from a mixed pack. Wish they had told me what it was called!
