I am so very proud that You Grow Girl was listed in Real Simple magazine’s The Best Blogs article in their March 2008. And with You Grow Girl turning eight years old this month I can’t help saying that it feels like my baby is growing up.

ooo congrats!!
That’s how I found this blog!
That’s fabulous!
My god – I can’t believe it’s been 8 years.
YGG and it’s neighbor in this article, Lifehacker, are the two blogs I check every day. Congrats on 8 years!
That’s how I found your blog too! Looking forward to starting my first garden this year!
Kelly: Sometimes I can’t believe it and other times it feels like I’ve lived an entire lifetime within those 8 years.
p.s. Birthday Contest will launch tomorrow. woo!
That is a huge compliment! They are one of my favorite magazines. Hope it brings a great new crop of simple-living, creative and hip gardeners your way.
Congratulations, you definitely deserve it
suh-weet!
and well deserved.
Congratulations. Ditto about being well-deserved. In fact, if they hadn’t selected you, I would have taken the editors to task. (REAL Simple is one of my favourite magazines and I have a bookshelf groaning with the weight of 4 years of back issues.)
In fact, I think I will just stop blogging and post a permanent message that says “go to Gayla’s site ’cause in my own garden I just try to do everything she says.”
Congratulations!! i’ve really enjoyed this site this past year, but i heard about you on NPR. ;)
When was I on NPR? It’s not just this site that is getting old… my memory is fading.
Me too! I found out about you in real simple and now not a day goes by that I don’t stop by for some garden inspiration!
i found you on real simple too and now i stop by every day to get myself pumped up about spring!
Add me to the chorus of people finding you via the Real Simple article! Congrats on 8 years, and a very informative site. I’m stoked for spring to kick in so I can use the advice I’ve found here!
I’ve bought the first issue of Real Simple off the rack my freshman year of college and am a subscriber. I wrote to their editor and recommended they highlight yougrowgirl.com in an article. I’m very happy to see that they did. I wish they had sent a copy of what I wrote back to me. I would have shared.
I found you in Real Simple also. I already have you in my bloglines – just haven’t been on here much due to surgery.
I have grown cherry tomatoes in my south bay window for the past two winters. I simply open cherry tomatoes into a pot, cover the seeds, and water all winter long! We’ve had to cut them off each year as they reach the ceiling!
This year, I hope to grow tomatoes from hanging pots and strawberries indoors. Hopefully I’ll get additional ideas from your site. We have 6 flower gardens and 1 veggie garden. One of our flower gardens is watered from the dropping water from our 2nd floor deck plants. I’d love to learn other ways to recycle water to help the environment and also cut the costs of my gardening obsession!
I found you because of that article. What a terrific blog! Am dedicated to growing more of my own food this year, even though I am a complete greenhorn (as opposed to green thumb).
That is so exciting! Also, I agree with them. It is great to see you get recognized for being kickass.
I found you in the magazine article, too. I grew up on a farm with yearly gardens, and I have grown gardens in a lot of smaller plots as an adult. This year I want to dial it down to container gardening and see if “less is more.”
Congratulations on your eight years! You must be doing something right and serving the needs of lots of folks — way to go … and to grow!
