The cosmos are sizing up now. Their stalks are thick and strong — it must be the duck manure that I worked into our sandy soil this spring. The seeds were started late this year since we didn’t have a garden at the time that I should have been direct sowing them.
Better late than never.
Ever since I publicly declared my love for this delicate and delightful weedy menace [oops… breaking my own rule here], I have resolved to grow more of them in my garden, the caveat being that I would go with unusual forms and/or double varieties and steer clear from the single pink and white varieties.
This year I selected a few varieties from Renee’s Garden* including, ‘Rose Bon Bon,’ ‘Double Click,’ and ‘Dancing Petticoats.’ Unfortunately, the individual tags have buried themselves in the garden somewhere so I can’t identify which is which.

I have to admit, as a beginning gardener, I did have that cosmos prejudice that you talk about in That Post. Guess it comes from every single person in my hood planting their tree squares with the Exact. Same. Variety. You just get bored of seeing the same thing all the time, you know? Little did I know that there’s more to cosmos than the basic kind.
I must admit, I too have a soft spot for Cosmos. Always have. always will. I have never seen double Cosmos or any that were not the typical white or pinkish. You have peaked my interest and curiosity, I have got to get some seeds ordered to plant ASAP :) Thank you for sharing
OMG I love love love cosmos….I save seeds every year and put them everywhere! They are lacy and wispy and lovely! The more the merrier:) They are the icing on the cake of my garden:) AHhh cosmo love!
Those cosmo`’s {the pretty pink ones} are beautiful. I would like to order some seed, I have had pink petunia this year. It is so dry, here in Athens.Ga. until we have had to water from the well. Nearly all of our plants have weathered up and some of them have just bit the dust. I hope you don’t have this problem,,I hope Your Gardengoes Great.Gguess What? It has began to thunder and rain while I was writing to you. THANKS for sending my note on up to THE LORD.
