It Came from the Compost Bin

I’m not even sure how a whole sweet potato got in there in the first place, but this one really wanted to grow.

That giant pile of wood chips in the background is the result of a large weed tree that fell down and flattened a portion of our community garden, including our ramshackle compost bin. But Davin, our resident Compost Technician keeps plugging away at it, undeterred. Proof positive that one does not require a proper bin with four sides and a top to turn garden and kitchen waste into compost.

  1. I just built raised beds and tossed in some compost. I’ve had about 10 seedlings come up, and I don’t remember planting any of them. I just take them out gently and put them into pots to see if they get any bigger.

  2. Love your writing.
With regard to your new website when I view the site I have noticed that on the main page the Daily “Title” overlaps the Date the post was created. Also when viewing the comments on a post the commentors picture icon overlaps the responses making it difficult to read.
Hope this info helps rather then causing you more stress.
Upgrading sites is a long process….

  3. Ha ha! I have one of those growing in the kitchen. And I just bought a second copy of your book, a friend stole the first one. I’m going to make a shiso slushie (with gin).
